High-Precision Current Clamp-On: Danisense Launches the MK500ID for Advanced Power Analysis

Date:

In the rapidly evolving landscape of power electronics, the demand for exact measurement is higher than ever. Danisense, a global leader in high-accuracy current sense transducers, has officially expanded its portfolio with the introduction of the MK500ID. This device marks the company’s first high-precision DC and AC high-precision current clamp-on designed for galvanically isolated measurements up to 500Arms and DC.

As industries shift toward high-frequency wide-bandgap (WBG) semiconductors and more efficient energy storage, the MK500ID arrives as a critical tool for engineers requiring lab-grade accuracy in a portable, clamp-on form factor.

Unmatched Accuracy and Phase Performance

The standout feature of the MK500ID is its industry-leading phase shift. In power measurement, particularly when calculating efficiency in inverters or motors, phase error is a primary driver of measurement uncertainty. The MK500ID delivers a phase shift of just 0.05° at frequencies below 100Hz.

According to Danisense, this is approximately twice as accurate as comparable products currently available on the market. When combined with a linearity error of just 20ppm and a current measurement accuracy of ±0.1%, the MK500ID sets a new benchmark for what a clamp-on transducer can achieve.

Bridging the Gap in High-Frequency Bandwidth

Most traditional clamp-on sensors struggle as frequencies rise, often limiting analysis to low-order harmonics. The MK500ID breaks this barrier by offering an enhanced high-frequency bandwidth of up to 1MHz.

This capability is essential for:

  • Inverter Efficiency Evaluation: Analyzing high-speed switching transients in SiC and GaN power stages.
  • Advanced Harmonic Analysis: Detecting high-frequency noise that can impact grid stability.
  • EV Battery Testing: Measuring rapid current pulses during dynamic load testing.

Engineered for Rugged Environments

Measurement accuracy is only as good as the sensor’s stability under real-world conditions. The MK500ID utilizes Danisense’s proprietary ultra-stable closed-loop fluxgate technology. Unlike Hall-effect sensors, fluxgate technology provides superior offset stability and temperature independence.

The device is built to perform consistently across a wide temperature range, from –40°C up to +85°C. With a Ø39mm aperture, it is designed to accommodate a wide variety of conductor sizes without compromising the ergonomic handling required for in-field use.

Versatile Applications: From EVs to Renewables

The versatility of the high-precision current clamp-on design makes the MK500ID ideal for both temporary installations and permanent retrofitting. It is particularly well-suited for:

  1. Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure: Testing battery management systems (BMS) and evaluating the performance of fast-charging stations.
  2. Renewable Energy Systems: Monitoring power generation in photovoltaic (PV) arrays and wind turbines.
  3. Grid Management: Supporting critical measurement needs in transmission and distribution networks where stability is paramount.
  4. Maintenance & Calibration: Serving as a reference tool for in-field analysis and the calibration of existing power meters.

Availability and Market Impact

Loic Moreau, Sales & Marketing Director at Danisense, expressed the company’s excitement about the launch at APEC, noting that the MK500ID provides a “very compelling solution” for high-precision measurement applications.

For the engineering community, the wait for this level of precision is nearly over. The MK500ID is currently available for order, with the first shipments scheduled to begin at the end of June 2026. Following the initial launch, Danisense will maintain a standard lead time of four weeks, ensuring that AarokaTech readers and industry professionals can integrate this technology into their workflows with minimal delay.
